Someone asked me to write an article for them. The subject will be “Transportation”, a word used to describe a great deal of topics. I have some experience in transportation, but not in the topic of the article. This means that I must look a little deeper into the political side of Transportation on local, regional and state levels.

So, what do I really know about transportation from the political perspective?  It hasn’t been much of an issue for me. I got a car, I drive on roads. The way I see it, we pay a multitude of taxes to fund transportation infrastructure and operations. Those taxes are the resources the government uses to maintain, operate and improve transportation. Those resources are limited, with too few resources the system begins to fail. When that happens, resource needs increase higher and faster than if the system had adequate resources in the beginning. With too many resources waste will become more prevalent resulting in resource needs greater than if a balance was struck between too much and too little. The trick for policy makers is to be able to hit the sweet spot that allows adequate resources to keep up and grow the transportation infrastructure in the most efficient and effective way. Yea, I know, easier said than done.

I guess that would be in a perfect world. Everybody knows that nothing is perfect. If it was not for imperfections, mistakes, or failures how would we know which direction to travel in reaching perfection. Too improve a system is to identify the imperfections and make them a little less imperfect. Well that is the goal at least.

What questions do I need to answer, what do I need to explore to write an article. (hopefully, a short one)?

Always open for some comments and how others see it. At this point that would mean about two of you. 😉

This is my first attempt at posting in the blogosphere. I have posted many times at the forums. I am not well versed in the latest HTML, XML and CSS web languages. If my posts look a little flaky have a little patience.

First off, a little about myself. I live in Plumas Lake California and have been active in my community in one way or another for the past few years. I am currently serving my community as a member of the Reclamation District 784 Board of Trustees. I have been employed for the last 25 years as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter in Sacramento and hold the rank of Fire Captain. My life has afforded me the training and experience to help the Reclamation District in its role as an emergency response agency. I try to break things down to the simplest form in order to analyze and make a decision.

I have shared almost half of my life with my wife who is a wonderful woman. We have 4 grown children and one granddaughter that is a total joy. As we enter into the third age of our lives I look forward to the new adventures and additions to our family.

It is my intent with this blog to offer my opinions and to help the readers sort through the BS that some would have you believe. I do not understand how some can be so focused on their own believes that they fail to see the big picture and ridicule the opinions of others when they do not agree with them. Some of you that already know me, may have an inkling as to whom I speak. At times that is exactly the case. At other times it is a generality and can be attributed to anyone.

I have been focused on one topic for the most part lately. I do hope to expand my writings to include other subjects both serious and lighthearted. I do like a good laugh and sometimes it is at the expense of others. Sometimes it is at the expense of myself. Sometimes some people open themselves up to a good jab and if you comment here, please have a good sense of humor and do not take things to personnal. Unless you are a complete idiot or are so full of yourself you will have my respect. I am after all a human animal and with that label comes all sorts of imperfections. If you find one in me then kindly point it out as I may not be able to see it.
